Rajkot: Virat Kohli’s 77 off 99 went in vain as South Africa, defeated India by 18 runs in the third one-day international at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot on Sunday night. South Africa lead the five-match series 2-1.

Chasing a challenging 271, India could only manage 252 for 6, thanks to a power-packed bowling by South African speedster Morne Morkel Dismantling the Indian batting line-up. The Proteas started well with their batsmen handling the Indian bowling comfortably on the flat track. But the Indians pulled off at just 252.

Pacer Mohit Sharma was the most successful among the India bowlers with figures of 2 for 62 in his nine overs. The right-armer struggled to contain the South African batsmen in his first spell, but returned to clinch the crucial wickets of Faf du Plesis and JP Duminy which helped put the brakes on the scoring rate.
