Kolkata: Soumitra Chattopadhyay received the Honorary D.Lit or the Doctor of Literature from the Presidency University on Tuesday at its convocation programme.
The legendary 83-year old actor was honored with the prestigious degree for his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema.
Recently, the decision was taken at a meeting by the University’s governing council. He is considered as one of the most accomplished Indian actors.
Soumitra was discovered and mentored by Satyajit Ray, with whom he worked in 14 films and one documentary.
Chatterjee also worked with renowned filmmakers such as Tapan Sinha, Tarun Majumder, Aparna Sen, Rituparno Ghosh.
Soumitra is a National award winner. He also received the Chevalier de la Legion d’honneur, earlier this year.
