Sonika Death Case: Actor Vikram Appeals For Anticipatory Bail


Kolkata: Actor Vikram Chatterjee On Monday appealed for the anticipatory bail plea in the Alipore Court. The hearing has been scheduled to 20th July.

Earlier on 12 July the Calcutta High Court dismissed the anticipatory bail plea of actor Vikram Chatterjee.

Vikram was arrested in connection with the car crash that killed fellow passenger model Sonika Chauhan, has been remanded to 14 day judicial custody till July 24 byChief Judicial Magistrate, Alipore Court on July 10.

He has been charged with culpable homicide. His bail plea has been rejected by the court.

The television and film actor was arrested after Kolkata Police personnel intercepted a cab outside Acropolis Mall on Rashbehari Avenue connector in Kasba area of south Kolkata at midnight on Friday, a senior Kolkata Police officer said.

Mr Chatterjee had earlier been charged with causing death due to rash and negligent driving for which the maximum punishment is two years. Section 304 of the Indian Penal Code or culpable homicide not amounting to murder means he can be jailed for up to 10 years.
