Sonia Gandhi Leaves Varanasi Roadshow Midway Due To High Fever

Lucknow: Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday had to leave the party’s roadshow in Varanasi midway after she developed a high fever.

Sonia, who was leading thousands of party workers in the roadshow  from the Circuit House here to Englishiya Line – is returning back to Delhi, said MLA Ajay Rai. The rest of the Congress contingent will continue with the roadshow programme and visit the Kashi Vishwanath Temple as scheduled.

Earlier on Tuesday, Sonia launched her party’s poll campaign for the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections with the roadshow in Varanasi, which is PM Modi’s constituency.

The march started with Sonia garlanding the statue of BR Ambedkar at Circuit House. Then the marchers criss-crossed lanes and bylanes of the temple town.

The Congress President, who was initially travelling in a car and later moved to a vehicle with an open sun roof, waved at the crowd that cheered and raised slogans against the Modi government.

She came out of her vehicle several times to accept the greetings of cheering supporters. As the road show passed through several neighbourhoods, rose petals were showered on Sonia and her cavalcade from adjoining buildings.
