Kapurthala: Baljit Singh, the Superintendent of Police, who was killed by terrorists in a gun battle in Gurdaspur district in Punjab on Monday was the son of a police officer who was also killed by militants during the militancy in Punjab in 1984.
Seven people including four civilians and three policemen were killed by the terrorists who stormed into Dinanagar Police Station on Monday morning.
Singh joined the police force in 1985 following his father Inspector Achhar Singh’s death in 1984 in militant attack. Besides his wife, Baljit is survived by a son, Maninder Singh (24), daughters Parminder Kaur (22) and Ravinder Kaur (20).
His body will be taken to his native place at tomorrow for last rites.
