New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party’s Somnath Bharti today failed to get protection from arrest in an attempt to murder case filed by his wife. His bail was rejected by the Delhi High Court.Mr Bharti’s lawyer said he would move the Supreme Court immediately. Mr Bharti had moved the high court after his petition was rejected by a lower court.
The police reported that the police are free to arrest the former law minister, who has been accused by his wife of domestic violence and torture.Lipika Mitra, whom Mr Bharti married in 2010, has alleged that he once tried to strangle her while his dog, Don, attacked her when she was pregnant.
Denying the allegations, Mr Bharti told “All charges are false. I will prove it. I love my wife.” In court, the police said Mr Bharti has to be interrogated in their custody, arguing that he is an influential person who can manipulate witnesses.
“The court decision vindicates Delhi Police’s stand. We had said his interrogation is necessary for our investigation,” said Deepender Pathak, a senior police officer. Arvind Kejriwal decided not to include him in his Government.
