Barasat: A joint team of the Wild Life Crime Control Bureau and CID arrested three from Barasat in North 24 Parganas district on Monday, and seized snake venom worth Rs 20 crore from their possession.
Officials said the venom was meant to be smuggled to other countries through Bangladesh in three inconspicuous Belgium jars. According to police sources, Two bikes have been rescued. Rescued poisons were brought from Bangladesh.
According to the CID, the three are part of an international gang that smuggles snake venom to the neighbouring country. Animal parts and illegal wildlife products fetch a hefty price in the Chinese black market.
The forest department has taken possession of the venom, and launched an official probe into the incident.
