Jalpaiguri: A youth was killed by a snake bite on Sunday at Jalpaiguri triggering chaos in the area.
Saugata Dutta (37) is an expert in catching snakes, as per locals. He was called by people to catch snakes at their houses. Thus he was called on Saturday at Sebagram area in Jalpaiguri to catch a snake. He caught a poisonous snake from the house.
Instead of releasing it to the jungle nearby, he took it home in a bag. While taking out the snake, in his house, the snake bit him. Saugata immediately informed the entire incident to a colleague of an NGO, Biswajit Dutta. Biswajit immediately took him to the Jalpaiguri District Hospital. The doctors injected an anti-venom injection in Saugata’s body. But unfortunately he died within 20 minutes of the injection.
Biswajit Dutta said that he immediately rushed to Saugata’s house on getting a call from him. On reaching he saw one of Saugata’s fingers was bleeding. Without any delay he took him to the hospital where primary treatment began immediately. But within few minutes, he passed away.
According to the hospital authorities, Saugata’s body would be handed over to his family after post-mortem.
