Kathmandu: Landslides triggered by the torrential rains killed six people including a woman and two children in Nuwakot district of central Nepal, officials said on Friday. The mudslide also swept away six houses.
Five people were killed and six others injured in a landslide triggered by last night’s incessant rains at Gorsyang Village Development Committee, home ministry officials said.
The identity of all the deceased persons has been ascertained and include two children aged 9 and 11, police said. Of the six injured, two persons are in critical condition and have been airlifted to capital Kathmandu for treatment. In another incident, an 80-year-old woman was killed at Samari village of Nuwakot district, 150 kilometres west of Kathmandu.
A police team has reached the site and five people were rescued alive. Scores of people die every year from flooding and landslides during the monsoon season in Nepal.
