Thane: 11 people were killed and seven other were injured when a 50 year old building collapsed in Thane on Monday night. The three storey building collapsed in the B Cabin area of Naupada in old Thane City on Tuesday morning at around 2:45 Am.
15 others are feared to be trapped inside the debris. Five families used to reside in the building which was termed dangerous and was also served notice by the Municipal Corporation earlier in the year to vacate. The rescue work is still on to locate the trapped people.
Sandeep Malvi, Press officer with the Thane Municipal Corporation said, “More than 15 persons are feared to be trapped inside the concrete wreckage.”
The rescue operartion was started by the fire brigade as Municipal Commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal rushed to the site and supervised the rescue operations. NDRF teams also reached the spot with sniffer dogs and sensory equipment to locate the survivors.
