New Dellhi: In a ray of hope for the families of the 1984 Anti- Sikh riots the centre has reportedly decided to set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the cases related to the riots which were closed by the police.
The official announcement of the SIT will be made after the elections in Delhi are over and the names of the members will be declared in the next three days.
The home ministry has decided to set up the SIT after a panel set up by the Government under retired Justice G P Mathur submitted its report that 225 cases needs a relook and there should be a fresh probe.
The committee which was constituted in December last year submitted its report within 45 days. The families of the victims have alleged that the Delhi Police ignored the complaints of the victims under political pressure and closed the cases.
