Mumbai: Remembering his 1981 romantic-drama “Silsila” as it completes 35 years on Friday, megastar Amitabh Bachchan says critics panned the movie when it was released but now it’s revered as a classic.
“Silsila”, directed by Yash Chopra, also starred Bachchan’s wife Jaya and Rekha, whose on-screen chemistry with the “Piku” star stands as one of Bollywood’s best ever. “35 years of ‘Silsila’… A film that was trashed by media as ‘silly sila’… Today referred to as a classic,” Bachchan wrote on his Twitter page.
The movie was a box-office disappointment but is now considered a classic. The 73-year-old “Te3n” actor also reminisced his 1982 film “Khud-Dar”, which co-starred Parveen Babi, Vinod Mehra and Sanjeev Kumar. “‘Khuddar’ 34 years!! Just memories now… Released when I was in Breach Candy after Coolie accident!” Bachchan had got critically injured on the sets of “Coolie” while filming a fight scene with co-star Puneet Issar which almost cost him his life.
