Darjeeling: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her Sikkim counterpart Pawan Chamling had a meeting on Friday to sort out the issues that had been plaguing the relationship between the two states. The meeting held at Uttarkanya, the state secretariat at Siliguri.
“Sikkim is a close friend of ours. If all is well in Sikkim, then it will be the same in Bengal. From now, we will be helping Sikkim in each way possible.”, Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee says after the meeting while spoke with the media.
Mamata, on several occasions, had alleged that Sikkim had been fanning violence at Darjeeling and had been offering shelter to fugitives. She added that Sikkim was doing it on its own interest so tourists who intended to visit Darjeeling would re-route their travel plans and go to Sikkim.
The Bengal CM further adds, ” Sikkim is very important for us. Whatever problem may arise between us, we will sort it out with communication. All the misunderstanding about Darjeeling has also been cleared out in the meeting.”
The Sikkim CM also claimed that the old issues have been sorted out in the meeting and that both the states will be cooperating with each other from now.
