Siddaramaiah, Adityanath Tussle Over Issues Of Starvation And Farmers’ Suicide

New Delhi: When the CM of Karnataka Siddaramaiah asked his Uttar Pradesh counterpart to learn from his state as how to deal with the issue of starvation, the latter hit back with a barb about farmer’s suicide in Karnataka. The exchange between the two chief ministers happened in the full public view on Twitter on Sunday.

In August last year, the Congress-led Karnataka government had inaugurated 101 Indira canteens with an aim to serve affordable food at a nominal cost of Rs 10.

Adityanath, not amused with the jibe, reminded Siddaramaiah about the suicide of farmers in Karnataka.

Between April 2013 and November 2017, as many as 3,515 farmers in Karnataka committed suicide, out of which 2,525 were due to drought and farm failure, statistics provided by the State Agriculture Department were quoted in a PTI report.

Later in the day, the Karnataka CM, tweeting in Kannada, trained guns at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Karnataka’s BJP president BS Yeddyurappa as well.
