New York: Amidst a recent surge in shooting incident across the United States of America, a gunman on Friday shot a federal protective services officer at a federal building in downtown Manhattan.
Reports said that the suspect walked into the building, which houses an immigration court and a post office, shot the officer. A shootout ensued, and the suspect shot and killed himself.
The officer is in critical condition and was in cardiac arrest and taken to Lennox Hill Healthplex, the New York Police Department confirms.
Both the New York Police Department and federal officers responded to the corner of Houston and Varick streets for the shooting.
