Paris: At least three people have been killed and four injured in a shootout at a Roma camp in north-eastern France, police say. French media quoted Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve as saying a six-month-old baby was among those killed.
Reports say a policeman was also among those killed and that two policemen were injured. The violence took place in the town of Roye, about 110km (68 miles) north of Paris. It is not clear what started the incident. The local Courrier Picard newspaper reported that security forces had sealed off the area.
Mr Cazeneuve said he was “saddened” by the shooting and thanked the police who had “courageously intervened to prevent an even more serious incident”.
