Lahore: ‘Sholay’ gets off to a disappointing start in Pakistan. The bollywood classic in the history of Indian cinema was released across the border after 40 years. The movie was released in 2D and 3D and the opening was “slow”. Ali Chaudhary, Direactor Operations, Cinester said, “If on Friday, a holiday, it is not doing well, we don’t hold out much hope of box-office collectios picking up on Satrday and Sunday.
Four decades later, Sholay premiered at Karachi’s Atrium Cinemas on Thursday. It was reported that there numerous “technical difficulties” while the movie was screened and the problems persisted throughout the screening.
Shah Rukh Khan’s Devdas, which was released on March 13 also did not pick up.
Ali Chaudhry also said, “I don’t know when DDLJ will open. Classics only release during a dry period and from May we will have lots of big Bollywood, Hollywood and locals films coming to the theatres”.
