Mumbai: Indrani Mukherjee’s Husband, media baron Peter Mukherjee, also an accused in the Sheena Bora murder case was arrested on Thursday by CBI. The probing agency had earlier filed a 1000 page charge-sheet. He will be produced at the court tomorrow.
Peter Mukerjea was arrested on the charges of destruction of evidence and misleading the investigating agencies, said CBI sources.
The over 1000-page charge sheet says Sheena Bora, 24, was murdered in 2012 by Indrani Mukerjee, wife of TV tycoon Peter Mukerjee, and her accomplices in the crime were her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyam Rai.
The case was handed over to the CBI by Maharashtra government in September this year. The charge-sheet includes the statements of around 150 witnesses. The CBI has also added the charge of poisoning in the case.
The CBI had earlier registered a case against Indrani Mukherjee, Sanjeev Khanna and Shyam Rai charging them with abduction, murder, criminal conspiracy and destruction of evidence among others.
Sheena Bora was allegedly strangled inside a car in April 2012. Her remains were found in August this year, in the forest in Raigad, around 80 km from Mumbai. Days later, Indrani Mukerjee was arrested.
Indrani is accused of keeping Sheena Bora’s body overnight at the home she shares with Peter Mukerjee, before driving it to Raigad the next morning where it was set on fire. She alleged told friends and family for three years that her daughter had left for the US.
A central forensic team has confirmed that the remains are of Sheena Bora. Police suspect that Mukerjee, 43, was locked in a bitter financial dispute with Sheena Bora at the time of her death.
