Canberra: Indian pacer Mohammed Shami has been ruled out of the Australia tour due to a hamstring injury, according to a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) release.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been named as his replacement for the five ODI and three Twenty20 series. He will join the Indian squad on Sunday.
“The BCCI medical team confirms that Mohammed Shami has been ruled out of India’s tour of Australia due to injury,” the release said.
“He sustained a Grade II injury to his left hamstring, which will restrict him from playing active cricket for about 4 to 6 weeks. The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Bhuvneshwar Kumar as the replacement, who will join the team tomorrow.”
Shami received the injury during a training session on Friday ahead of a warm-up Twenty20 match against Western Australia XI.
