SFI-Police clashes at Rani Rashmoni road


Kolkata: Violent clash broke out between SFI activist staging a civil disobedience movement protesting the death of SFI leader Sudipta Dutta, and police at the Rani Rashmoni road in the heart of the city on Thursday.

As per he reports, an SFI leader and several police personal including the officer in charge of Amherst street police station have been injured in the clash. The injured activists have been taken to the Calcutta Medical college.

Four SFI activists named as Swagata Kundu, Ayan Ghosh, Soumen Mitra and Riya Dutta are said be critically injured.

It is to be noted that SFI leader Sudipta Gupta has been brutally assaulted by police and died in the police custody later three year ago on the same day.

The SFI and Left Front had called a civil disobedience movement on Thursday demanding justice for Gupta. SFI activists accused police of lathi charging the protesters without any provocation.

Condemning the attack CPM leader Sujan Chakroborty said, “Police has turned into a bunch of goons.” Opposition had slammed the government and police for the incident.
