Behrampore: Seven casual labourers, who were employed to cleanse ash hopper at National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), Farakka unit, suffered burn injuries on Friday morning.
According to sources, four seriously injured labourers were admitted to NTPC hospital and three were released after preliminary treatment.
Soon after the accident, cleaning work was paused for a while as some labourers got busy attending to the injured and some raised a security issue.
This is the third accident at the NTPC hopper-cleaning unit this year and questions have been raised how the authorities didn’t enforce a security dress code at the scorching hot boiler and hopper-cleaning unit.
According to the AGM (human resources) of NTPC, Farakka, “We arranged treatment of seven casual labourers, who suffered burn injuries as a large chunk of hot dry ash fell on their body. Here, we supply security dress to the labourers, but they are not willing to wear them and such accidents occur due to their negligence. All those injured are recovering now.”
The seven injured workers are identified as Nur Nabi Seikh, Habibur Seikh, Sefajuddin Seikh, Girish Ghosh, Safi Seikh, Kali Prasad Bhakat and Fazlul Seikh.
