Coimbatore: A major road accident killed seven people, including a woman and child and injured 28 others, when a private bus lost control and toppled in Tirupur district of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday morning.
Police said the bus was going from Erode to Coimbatore when the driver applied brake on noticing a beggar crossing the road near Palankarai around 7:45am. However, the bus toppled killing seven people, including the beggar and six of the 74 passengers in it.
The accident happened on Chengapalli-Walayar section of the National Highway 47. All the injured were admitted to nearby hospitals. The Avinashi police registered a case and were searching for the driver of the bus who was absconding. Top officials, including the Tirupur collector and superintendent of police, visited the accident spot.
