SER Registers Record Growth in Freight Loading


Kolkata: South Eastern Railway during the first six months of the current financial year i.e. from April to September, 2015 has loaded 65.05 million tonnes of revenue earning freight as against 62.53 million tonnes of freight loaded during the corresponding period of last year, thus registering a growth of 2.52 million tonnes i.e 4.03%.  The major components of this excellent loading performance were 35.68 million tonnes of Iron Ore, 12.76 million tonnes of Coal, 7.08 million tonnes of Pig Iron and Finished Steel, 3.94 million tonnes of cement, 2.35 million tonnes of Merchandised Goods, 1.17 million tonnes of Petroleum Products (POL), 0.44million tonnes of Fertilisers, 0.04million tonnes of Food Grains etc.

In the month of September, 2015, South Eastern Railway has loaded 10.81 million tonnes of freight as against 9.31 million tonnes loaded in the month of September, 2014 which is a growth of 16.11%. As a result, earnings from freight loading during the month of September 2015  has been Rs. 766.79 crores as against Rs.688.65 crores earned in the month of September, 2014, thus registering a growth of 11.35%. Increase in freight loading and earnings in September ’15 has been mainly on account of record increase in loading of Iron Ore by 39.3%, Raw materials to Steel Plant by 66.6% and Other Goods by37.9% over September ’14.

 As a result of this remarkable loading performance, South Eastern Railway has been able to generate freight earnings of Rs 4928.40 crores during April-September of current financial year which is Rs 363.42 crores more than the corresponding period of last year, thus registering a  growth of approximately 8%.
