Kolkata: The first year students of New Law College hostel under Calcutta University were allegedly ragged by seniors where women were forced to ‘strip and dance’ and men were forced to ‘self stimulate’.
A written complaint has been given to the vice-chancellor but no action has been taken against the culprits yet. As per the students mainly those who are from outside of Kolkata or from different states the vice chancellor have not listen to their complaints.
After this incident, a section of the students sat on dharna outside the vice-chancellor’s office protesting against ragging. Then vice chancellor Sonali Chakraborty Banerjee came to visit them. According to the vice chancellor, a two-member inquiry committee has been formed comprising the registrar and the official in charge of hostels and based on their inquiry decision will be taken.
Due to the incident in the educational institute the students are scared to go to the hostel, and refused to go back to their respective hostels.
Earlier on Friday tension gripped in the South Calcutta Law College when a group of students resorted to ransacking the college alleging exorbitant fees.
