Kolkata: Section 144 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been clamped in and around Tipu Sultan Shahi Mosque in Dharmatalla following an order by a city court.
The order came from executive magistrate of Bankshall Court Justice Chanda Hasmat
following a petition seeking a prohibitory order in and around the famous mosque, which
has architectural and cultural heritage, besides religious work in the heart of the city.
Rana Gives Lesson To Imam Barkati
On Thursday, there had been some scuffle after the sacked Imam Maulana Syed
Nurur Rehman Barkati, arrived at the mosque premises. The trustee Board of Waqf Estate Prince Ghulam Mohammed Shah Committee yesterday suspended the Imam for his alleged derogatory remarks against country’s leaders.
However, the Imam had refused to quit his post.
