Second Ceasefire violation by Pak on Independence Day

Poonch: Pakistan continues with its ceasefire violence on Independence Day resorting to unprovoked firing across the border in the Balakote area of Poonch with mortar shell firing. Three civilians have been killed and eight others have been injured in the incident. No sweets were exchanged between the Indian and the Pakistani troops on the occasion of Independence Day.

This is the second incident of ceasefire violence on Independence Day. On 14 August the forward posts and the civilan areas in Shahpur Kerni belt of Poonch were fired upon by Pak forces. There have been 45 instances of ceasefire violations along the International Border in the last 45 days. While Pakistani troops resorted to morter shelling from last evening to late in the night in the Hamirpur sector, they also fired in Mand and Saujiyan sectors of Jammu and Kashmir.
