Kolkata: Supreme Court on Friday will hear appeal of BJP regarding Panchayat Election.
The Bengal BJP on Thursday moved the Supreme Court seeking deployment of central forces for the panchayat polls and measures to ensure its nominees’ safety.
The steps sought include adequate police protection for BJP candidates and a directive to the state election commission that the nomination process should not be closed till its nominees can submit their papers without fear.
A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra agreed to take up the matter urgently after BJP counsel Aishwarya Bhati sought an urgent hearing. The nomination deadline is April 9. “In addition to denial of nomination forms, the ruling party has unleashed violence,” the BJP petition states.
