SC Junks Centre’s Plea on Jat Reservation

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday scrapped the review pleas filed by the central government and Jat lobbies seeking to declare the Jat community as socially and economically backward class to grant them OBC reservation.

A bench headed by Justice Ranjan Gogoi dismissed the plea filed by them seeking review of its verdict by which it had declared the Centre’s decision to grant OBC status to JAT community as unconstitutional.

The Supreme Court in March had struck down the Centre’s controversial decision to grant Jat community reservation in jobs and educational institution, terming it as a reflection of “negative” and “retrograde” governance.
