New Delhi: The apex court has issued a notice to the central government over Italy’s fresh plea seeking international arbitration in Italian marines case. Massimiliano Latorre is one of the two Italian marines facing murder charges in the fishermen killing case.
On April 9 the Supreme Court allowed the Italian marine to remain in his country till July 15 on health grounds. The court had also said that trial should be completed as soon as possible.
Latorre had undergone a cardiac surgery in Italy in January this year. He had sought the extension on grounds that recently he had developed certain medical complications.
Latorre on January 7 had moved to Supreme Court seeking extension of his stay in Italy on the ground that he had undergone a heart surgery on January 5. The court had granted his stay in his country on medical grounds following centre’s nod that there was no objection on his plea on humanitarian ground.
