SC denies CBI enquiry into Andhra firing

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has declined to entertain petitions seeking CBI probe into the Chittoor firing which left 20 people dead in a forest. The apex court also declined the petitions for a court monitored enquiry.

A division bench headed by Chief Justice HL Dattu has said that the Hyderabad High Court and the National Human Rights Commission is already looking into the case.

There were allegations against the police that the encounter was fake and the victims were innocent labourers from Tamil Nadu although Andhra Pradesh Police had claimed that six of their personnel were also injured in the encounter.

The relatives of the victims have alleged that all the 20 people were killed by the police in cold blood.
