Washington: Satya Nadella will have a front row seat for President Obama’s last State of the Union address on Tuesday. The White House announced today that the Microsoft CEO will attend the speech as a special guest of the president. He will be the only tech industry figure represented at the event. Other guests include an Air Force sergeant who subdued an armed gunman on a Paris-bound train in August, a Syrian refugee, and a seat left empty to commemorate the American victims of gun violence.

In its announcement, the White House highlighted Microsoft’s work with Teach.org and the company’s recent effort to expand computer science education, announced in September, which will distribute $75 million to a series of non-profits over the next three years. At the time, Nadella described the project as an effort to integrate computer science into the K-12 curriculum, making sure it was “taught in our schools like biology or like chemistry.” The announcement also highlighted Microsoft’s recently expanded parental leave policies, which have become a focus across the industry in recent years.
