Sardar to Surpass Bapu in Gandhinagar

Gandhinagar: In a first Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel will tower over Mahatma Gandhi as against the nearly seven foot tall statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the secretariat premises in Gandhinagar, a 30 ft statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel will be installed just over 100 metres away ahead of the Iron Man’s 140th birth anniversary on October 31.

Gujarat CM Anandiben Patel will unveil the statue on Sardar Jayanti at the ‘Central Vista’—a magnificent garden nestled between roads connecting secretariat with Mahatma Mandir. Officials said the statue is an exact replica of the 182 ft Sardar Patel statue coming up at Kevadiya colony as part of the Rs 3,000 crore ‘Statue of Unity’ project. Its cost is pegged at Rs 80 crore.

“A 30 ft bronze statue of Sardar Patel is almost ready at a studio near Delhi. One of the tallest statues to be installed in Gujarat, it will be brought to Gandhinagar shortly,” the sources said.In times when Sardar has been used as a mascot for the Patidar quota stir, the statue is being seen as the government’s attempt to reclaim Sardar.
