Sangrampur Hooch Tragedy: Life Term Announced For 4


Kolkata: Calcutta High Court on Friday sentenced life imprisonment to the four people including Noor Islam alias Khora Badshah,the prime accused, and three others — Dukhi Laskar, Khairul Laskar and Nazmul alias Kola Laskar who were guilty in the case where at least 170 lives in 2011.

50000 thousands penalty announced for each person. Noor Islam will get 10 years jail and more 25000 penalty has been fixed.

Parthasarthi Chakraborty announced them covicted in the case. In the worst hooch tragedy in the state, around 170 people died in December 2011 in Sangrampur in South 24 Parganas district after consuming toxic liquor. Nur Islam Fakir alias Khora Badsha is the main accused in that case.

On February 12, 2012, the police filed a charge sheet against the accused. The case lasted for nearly six years. Of these 56 witnesses were taken to court. In the trial, the court convicted four people.

After hearing the verdict, Khora Badshah broke down in tears outside the court. Said, ” The court has given the sentence fairly. I will appeal to High Court against this verdict. ” Public prosecutor welcomed the verdict of the court.
