Kolkata : Sambia Sohrab, the main accused in the Red Road hit-and-run case filed an appeal to the High Court seeking permission for bail, on Thursday.
Sambia Sohrab, the main accused in the Kolkata hit-and-run case mowed down an IAF officer during a Republic Day parade rehearsal in Kolkata on January 13.
Sohrab was declared absconding after the accident. After CM’s Mamata Banerjee’s stong orders , he was arrested within few days from Beckbagan. Sambia is the son of a local TMC leader, Mohammad Sohrab.
The police charged Sambia under penal code sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 120B (criminal conspiracy), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence), 212 (harbouring an offender) and 427 (mischief), seeking to dispel the notion that anybody was being willfully shielded.
Apart from him, another accused in the accident was Sambia’s ‘friend’ Shahnawaz Khan (Sanu). He was arrested by a Special Task Force from Delhi, after a few days.
