Agra: The Samajwadi Party’s Agra unit president, Muslim Khan, was suspended by the party on Thursday, a day after a man claimed he was assaulted and urinated upon by the leader and his aides. The party has also set up a four-man committee to probe the matter.
The BJP, meanwhile, demanded that the Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act be invoked against Khan, failing which they would launch an agitation in the city.
SP’s Agra district president Ramsahaye Yadav said, “We have suspended Muslim Khan considering the grave charges levelled against him. A committee of four party leaders has been set up to look into the matter. The committee will submit a report within a week. We will take appropriate action depending on the report.”
Khan has been booked under 10 sections of the IPC, including assault with intent to dishonour a person, after a man named Nirotam Singh claimed he was beaten and urinated upon for getting into a verbal disagreement with Khan’s father, who has been identified as Haji Punni.
