Kolkata: After a report was registered against self proclaimed spiritual guru Virendra Dev Dixit who allegedly confined hundreds of girls, drugged and raped them for years at his Delhi and UP Ashrams. Now the state women and child development and social welfare department has also started a probe into the allegations. The women’s commission is also looking into it.
The Bidhannagar East police station authorities conducted a raid at his Adhyatmik Ishiwarya Vishwavidyala ashram at Salt Lake’s CL 249 on Saturday and rescued 15 women aged between 25 and 60 years. And finally sealed the Ashram.
According to one of the FIRs lodged at the Bidhannagar East police station, a petition filed by a woman from Contai in East Midnapore some time back claimed that in 1984. In 1992-93, she joined another institute called Adhyatmik Ishiwarya Viswavidyalaya at CL 249, where the founder of the institute allegedly forcefully co-habited with her.
Apart from the police, One woman, who was detained, was arrested late on Saturday night. She has been remanded in police custody. The other two who were detained were allowed to leave after questioning. The police will further interrogate the arrested to know more about the alleged irregularities at the ashram. Police said all the rescued women have been sent to a state-run home.
