New Delhi: Sakshi Malik is all set to tie the knot and the lucky groom would be Satyawart Kadian, an international wrestler from Rohtak.
“It was decided before Sakshi left for Rio Olympics that they will get married,” Sakshi’s brother Sachin confirmed. Sakshi, who won bronze at the Rio Olympics, is also from Rohtak and Satyawart also comes from a family of wrestlers. His father Satyawan, was a renowned wrestler himself and runs an akhada in Rohtak.
“They (Sakshi and Satyawart) are getting married and it will be a huge affair,” said Satyawan. “Satyawart trains here in my akhada when he is not competing or in the national camp.” Sakshi’s exploits are well known, especially after she won the bronze in Rio. Satyawart was one of the first people to congratulate Sakshi after she clinched India’s first medal in Rio.
On his Facebook page, Satyawart wrote “My Sweetheart #SakshiMalik ?You have made us proud.” Sakshi’s medal is seen as a boost for many girls in Haryana who wish to take up sports. Satyawart is two years younger to Sakshi who turned 24 on Saturday.
Satyawart, who competes in 97kg category, is considered a talented young wrestler and has won many international medals. He won silver at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow besides a bronze at the Asian Championships the same year.
Not just Sakshi, even Geeta Phogat is also getting hitched this year. Geeta, who is daughter of Mahavir Phogat, is the first Indian female wrestler to qualify for the Olympics in London and has won a world championship medal.
Geeta will also tie the knot with a wrestler named Pawan in December.
