Sagar Ghosh Murder Case: Two Sentenced To Life


Siuri: Siuri District Court on Friday has been given a life sentence for killing Sagar Ghosh. On Thursday, Siuri District Court convicted Subroto Roy, Bhagirath Ghosh – two people in connection to the murder of Sagar Ghosh.

On 20 July,2013 a day before the panchayat polls, Sagar Chandra Ghosh, father of rebel Trinamul leader Hridoy Ghosh, was shot at his home in Badnabagram village in the Parui police station area in Birbhum’s Kasba allegedly by local Trinamul workers and leaders.

In a complaint the family had named Trinamul district president Anubrata Mondal as an accused. They alleged that on 17 July Mr Mondal, during a rally, had openly instructed party workers to burn the homes of their rivals.

Mr Hridoy Ghosh was among the rebel Trinamul leaders of Panrui who was contesting the panchayat poll an an Independent candidate.

Police arrested Sheikh Yunus of Panrui from Bolpur. He was the anchal president of Trinamul in the Kasba area. According to eyewitnesses Yunus shot at Sagar but the bullet hit the wall. Later, police recovered the bullet. However, Yunus’ name was not in the first FIR copy which the Panrui police allegedly forced Sagar’s wife, Saraswati Ghosh, to sign.
