Sad And Dark Day In Our History: Mamata Banerjee On Lal Qila

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee raised her voice against the decision of Shah Jahan’s iconic Red Fort in Delhi which is now Dalmia Bharat group’s Red Fort.

“Dalmia Bharat Limited, Ministry of Tourism and Archaeological Survey of India sign MoU to take up the Red Fort, Delhi and Gandikota Fort, Kadapa. @KJAlphons @tourismgoi @DalmiaBharat Becomes the first corporate to sign a MOU under the Government’s “Adopt a Heritage” project,” the company tweeted.

“Why can’t the Government even take care of our historic Lal Qila ? Red Fort is a symbol of our nation. It is where India’s flag is hoisted on Independence Day. Why should it be leased out ? Sad and dark day in our history.” Mamata Banerjee tweeted.

The sources say that the order has been to the Dalmia group for Rs 25 crore for 4 years. As per the order, the Dalmia group will take care of the maintenance and repair of the iconic monument; but ahead of August 15, when Prime Minister addresses the nation from Red Fort, the monument will be handed over to the security agencies. The same will be on by July 23.

Under the famous Central scheme ‘Adopt a Heritage’, the Dalmia Group has adopted Shah Jahan’s Red Fort becoming the first-ever corporate company to bag the contract to adopt a historical monument for a whopping Rs 25 crore.
