Sachin Tendulkar Donates Lakhs to Boost Bengal School’s Infrastructure

Midnapore: Indian legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar has donated around Rs 76 lakh to a high school in West Midnapore district, West Bengal, to boost their infrastructure. The former start sent the money earlier this year after staff at Swarnamoyee Sasmal Sikhsa Niketan had requested financial aid to improve infrastructure, reports Hindustan Times. Teachers and students of Swarnamoyee Sasmal Sikhsa Niketan have long been fans of the cricketer but were lost for words when the donation came through.

“The realisation hasn’t yet sunk in. We have no words to express our gratitude,” principal of the school, Uttamkumar Mohanty told HT.  Tendulkar donated the money under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development scheme. Now, construction of a library, a laboratory and a common room for girls is underway at the school. The school will invite the retired cricketer for the inaugural ceremony of the new facilities.
