London: After a devastating win in Champions League Real Madrid still raw for Liverpool, fans probably never thought some of Madrid’s key players would be wandering around Anfield so soon after.
However, with Liverpool’s famous ground the venue for a Brazil-Croatia friendly match on Sunday, that is exactly what happened — and they didn’t waste the opportunity to have a laugh at Liverpool.
Marcelo and Luka Modric are key Madrid players and played their part in seeing off the Premier League side 3-1 in Kiev just a week ago. And both men were in the hallowed Anfield corridors as the Brazilian and Croat hung out at the ground on Saturday ahead of the match, alongside Real team-mates Mateo Kovacic of Croatia and Brazilian Casemiro.
Kovacic posted photos on his Instagram of Real players laughing and joking right in front of the giant Liverpool crest at Anfield, much to the horror of Klopp’s team’s fans. And Brazilian ace Neymar also took the chance to grab a photo with his ex-Barca collegaue Ivan Rakitic, captioning the photo: ‘I miss you brother, happy to see you.’
The match is Brazil’s first friendly match of their World Cup preparations, but Neymar will not start the game as manager Tite wants him to continue his recovery from a broken metatarsal. ‘He will be on the bench because he is in the process of recovery and will play in the second half because this is a match to prepare the whole team. He will come on at half-time. Who he replaces, I don’t know.’
