Kolkata: This is the first time after independence that anyone from the minority class will be the Mayor of Kolkata Municipal Corporation or KMC. But this move was not welcomed by Hindu organisations like Biswa Hindu Parishad, RSS and others.
According to these organisations, it will be good if memory of ‘the great Calcutta killing’ does not return back with this decision by the state government. However, leaders of these organisations have said that they are not interested in making any personal attacks. According to them, the Mayor at 1946 was a Muslim one and the memory of his tenure was dangerous.
A top-leader of RSS said, “We have no problem with any Muslim. But why was it necessary to make someone Mayor who has ‘Mini-Pakistan’ controversy attached to his name. This can bring the memory of ‘The great Calcutta Killing’ (16th August 1946).
