Kolkata: CPM elect Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya’s nomination for the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls have been cancelled by the Election Commission on Monday. The nomination papers were not complete and submission was delayed, as per reports.
The Election Commission had refused to accept the affidavit later as the last date for filing was 28th July within 3 pm. They cited that the affidavit was an important document among the nomination papers.
The scrutiny process saw a war of words over the submission timings among TMC and CPM leaders in the Vidhan Sabha on Monday.
CPM leader Sujan Chakraborty said that the cancellation was predictable.” I can smell conspiracy. TMC was scared of the elected candidate.We will seek legal help ,” he added.
West Bengal has been allocated with six seats in Rajya Sabha. With Bikash’s exit, the scheduled debate over extending support to the other Rajya Sabha candidates also stands cancelled.
Election Commission will wait for the nomination withdrawal till 3pm on Monday and thereby making way for the other 6 candidates from the state.
