RPF Deployed At Santragachi Footbridge To Control Rush


Kolkata: Recently, at least two persons were killed and 14 injured in a stampede at the Santragachi railway station in Howrah district of West Bengal. The stampede occurred on a foot overbridge between platforms two and three at the station when three trains, two EMU trains and one express train, arrived at the same time.

After this horrific incident Railway protection force was deployed at Satragachi over bridge to control the rush. RPF constable NK Das, who deployed at Santragachi station, said, “Two officers of RPF and four constables are in charge of controlling the crowd of over-bridge. This rule has been introduced after the accident. ”

As a result, over bridge is divided into two separate lines and it funcitions smoothly now. The RPF, which was deployed under the bridge, has taken the same procedure to control the crowd of passengers.

Earlier, the railways formed a high-level inquiry committee. General Manager of the South-Eastern Railway said that the importance of passenger is emphasized. If someone is found guilty, strict action will be taken against him or her.
