Justice Debabrata Saha, after hearing the arguments and counter arguments of the government prosecutors, ordered for 10 days police remand of Kumar, who is accused of extortion and cheating.

Before the Supreme Court’s rejection to his anticipatory bail plea, Calcutta High Court in the third week of March had also rejected Kumar’s bail plea in connection with an extortion case that was lodged against him by a chartered accountant (CA), Komal Somani, with the Shakespeare Sarani police station.

Kumar, who was the chief investigating officer for ED in the Rose Valley scandal, was suspended after he was found in close proximity with Subhra Kundu, wife of Rose Valley Group chairman Gautam Kundu who is now in jail.

The government prosecutors, while pleading for 14 days police custody, said they need to question the accused on many cases of cheating and his alleged unaccounted money kept in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.

They alleged Kumar used to run a racket with his accomplices by misusing the government position he held and minted money by creating fear among the business people. However, the court ordered for 10 days police custody until May 12.
