Kolkata: Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay was arrested on Tuesday by the CBI for his alleged involvement in Rs 60,000 Cr Rose Valley group chit fund scam.

CM Mamata Banerjee alleged political vendetta against the TMC party and questioned that if Sudip Banerjee could be arrested, why could Babul Supriyo not be arrested. She even demanded the arrest of Amit Shah and Narendra Modi and Rahul Sinha, Sujan Chakraborty. She has arranged for an emergency meeting with her members of the party after the arrest.

Some questions posed by the CBI were as such :

The CBI asked that how does he knows Rose Valley owner Gautam Kundu, to which he replied that they met at a party, but he doen’t remember who introduced him to Gautam Kundu. The CBI asked whether he helped the company in any way to which he completely refused.

The officers counter attacked that they do have proper evidence against what he is saying. They pointed out that the proofs show that Sudip Banerjee did take money from the company for his foreign visits. But he rejected all such allegations. The CBI asked him as to why did he help the company to which he again denied and said that he did not do any promotional activity or any official programme.

The CBI further asked whether the company paid for the car he bought but he said that he has no idea if he had taken money for the issue. These answers led the CBI to be unsatisfied and hence they went further for the second interrogation where they put up proofs of financial transactions of his with Rose Valley and his relation with Gautam Kundu. Finding no proper answers, the CBI decided to arrest him.

Sudip Banerjee’s wife Naina Banerjee said that she has no rection to this news, The party would speak on this matter and hence refused to comment.

The CBI alleged that he refused to answer to several questions and on the basis of that (unavailability of proper information) he was arrested. The CBI alleged that Sudip was trying to hide important details.

In the morning, he reached at CBI office for questioning and later he was arrested by the central probe agency.

Earlier, Bandopadhyay had said that he would appear before the CBI on January three in connection with the investigation and co-operated with the agencies.

“I have come to clarify my position on whatever questions they have,” he said.

On December 30, Actor-turned-Trinamool Congress MP Tapas Pal was arrested by the CBI for his alleged involvement in the scam.

Tapas Pal’s daughter Sohini too appeared before the CBI for interrogation in Bhubaneswar for the second time

The Rose Valley scam is believed to be the biggest ponzi fraud in India and the scam itself is at least seven times bigger than Saradha scam.

TMC MP Sudip Bandhopadhyay will be taken to Bhubaneswar (Odisha) by CBI tonight.
