Rosberg Secures Pole Position In Russian GP

Johannesburg: Nico Rosberg capitalized on reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton’s ill-fortune to secure the pole position for Sunday’s Russian Grand Prix.

Mercedes driver Rosberg recorded a fastest lap in one minute and 35.417 seconds to finish first on the grid, while Hamilton was unable to race in the Q3 part of the qualifying session after suffering another engine failure in Q2.

Sebastian Vettel of Ferrari finished second ahead of Williams’ Valtteri Bottas but is expected to start from seventh on the grid after a five-place penalty due to a gearbox change on his car, Sport24 reported.

Hamilton will start from 10 on the grid when he will begin his title defence.

Rosberg leads three-time champion Hamilton by 36 points after winning the opening three races of the season.
