New Delhi: Former Chief selector of India, Sandeep Patil stirred a debate when he said that swashbuckling opnener Rohit Sharma is a better batsman than talismanic captain Virat Kohli in limited overs format of the game. During a chat show on a TV news channel, Patil said that at the moment, in terms of batting, Rohit is few steps ahead of Kohli.
“Virat Kohli fans might not like it but I have to say Rohit Sharma is currently the better batsman. Virat is definitely a great batsman, no doubt about it. He is India’s best Test batsman but when it comes to limited overs cricket, Rohit is ahead of him,” Patil told ABP news.
Rohit Sharma broke multiple records during recently concluded ODI and T-20I series with Sri Lanka where he slammed his hird double ton in ODIs and joint fastest T-20I hundred. Virat Kohli was rested for the series as he was to tie knot with Anushka Sharma.
In 2017, Virat Kohli leads the batting charts for India both in T-20I and ODIs. In ODIs, Kohli has scored 1460 runs in 26 innings at an average of 77 whereas Rohit has 1293 runs under his belt in 21 innings at an average of 72. In T20Is, Virat has scored 299 runs in 10 innings while Rohit has scored 283 runs in 9 innings.
