RIP Vinod Khanna


Mumbai: A beautiful era ends with the death of super star Vinod Khanna. He started his career in 1968 with a small second lead role in Man Ka Meet. His acting skill received tremendous applause from both the film industry and from his fans. Vinod Khanna was one of the few Hindi actors who began his career with the negative roles then he got his first break as the solo lead hero in the film Hum Tum Aur Woh (1971) opposite Bharati Vishnuvardhan.

Khanna appeared in 141 films in between 1968-2013.

Vinod Khanna acted in lead roles in many superhit films and is best remembered for his performance in films like Mere Apne, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Gaddaar (1973 film), Jail Yatra, Imitihaan, Inkaar, Kuchhe Dhaage, Amar Akbar Anthony, Rajput, Qurbani, Kudrat, Dayavan, Kaarnama,Suryaa: An Awakening and Jurm.

Apart from a good actor he was also an active politician. In 1997, Khanna joined the BJP and he was the sitting MP from Gurdaspur.

In 1982, at the peak of his film career, Khanna temporarily quit the film industry to follow his spiritual guru Osho Rajneesh. After 5 years gap, he returned to the Hindi film industry giving two back to back hit films like Insaaf and Satyamev Jayate.

He bagged many awards throughout his career like in 1975 he got the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award for Haath Ki Safai and the tradition continued he got Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award (1999). Not only in 90s but he bagged many awards in 20s as well. He also got Kalakar Awards Lifetime Achievement in 2001. He got Stardust Awards Role Model for the Year in 2005. He also got the Zee Cine Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2007.

The actor was in news since past few weeks after he was admitted to the Mumbai hospital. A very saddening and fragile picture of him went viral moving every netizen from their core.

Unfortunately Vinod Khanna passed away on Thursday morning. The hospital authorities said that he passed awau due to advanced bladder carcinoma. In his last days, he was surrounded by his children, family and wife Kavita.
