Revolutionary Poet Manindra Gupta Passes Away


Kolkata: Veteran poet Manindra Gupta passed away on Wednesday night at a private hospital. He was suffering from debilitating illness since long time. He took his last breath at 94. In 2011, he got the Sahitya Academy Award for his creation ‘Bone Aaj Concherto’.

On the debut day of 42nd Kolkata International Book Fair, it has created mourning state of mind among the book-wormers. In February, last year he was honored by Lifetime Award at the ‘Poetry Festival’ organized by West Bengal Bengla Academy.

He was born on 1926. He started writing in 40s. Since very first, he was celebrated for his exceptional literary language. His first literary work’ Neel Pathorer Akash’ published in 1969. Then ‘Mou Pokader Gram’, ‘Laal School Bari’, ‘Chatropalash Chaitye Dinseshe’, ‘Barir Kopale Chand’ hits the mind of literary-lover. His poetry collection published by Aadam publication.

He was a close friend of Little Magazine. He was the editor of the magazine ‘Parama’. He was honored with Rabindra Award for his literary creation ‘TungTang Shobdo Nishobddo’ and ‘Bone Aaj Concherto’ in 2010.
